Avalanche Risk Management for Climbers: One-day course

This course is designed with ice climbers in mind. As climbers we are often in exposed terrain and as a result there doesn’t need to be much snow to pose serious risks.  In this course we will review some basics on how you can assess snow risks both through terrain management as well as analyzing the snow pack in route to your objectives.  We look at how to implement your rope into the equation for some risk management and when to just turn back. The skills and risk mitigation in this course will take place with minimal avalanche safety equipment to simulate the fact that many climbers often don’t carry this extra weight.  In some cases the full avalanche safety kit is suggested while in others we may choose get by with less.   We focus on identifying and assessing risks and planning accordingly.
Date Options: December 10th
Cost: $150
